And it's a stunner. Folks, meet the newest version in Nokia's internet tablet series: the N810 - a touch-screen device that brings a slide-out keyboard and integrated GPS to the table.

Nokia's fondness for tablets and the tableteer means that there isn't a whole lot that has deviated from the series. Like its predecessors, the N810 is not quite a laptop replacement, but more of a pocket-sized Internet device that does more than your mobile phone (but less than the PC). Think of it as a PSP for the mature, sophisticated crowd, rather than little kiddies who like to write unintelligible messages like: "1 r0x0r3d j00r b0x3rz r0flc0pter kekeke".

Nokia's new N810 Internet Tablet

The Nokia N810 tablet: sliding keyboard + gps included.

The slide-out keyboard is a surprising addition to the device, considering that there were TWO on-screen keyboards (one used with the stylus, and one for finger-presses) on the N800. Looks like Nokia ditched the styli in favor of a keyboard and directional key combo. While it's too early to say whether the keyboard's a hit or miss, I'm definitely not looking forward to stretching out either thumb to hit some of those central keys.

A GPS, on the other hand, is a nice touch. Nokia previously released two navigation kits for the 770 and N800 that included a additional Bluetooth GPS - so an onboard GPS and maybe a nice car stand would make the N810 fairly competitive against the other big boys in the portable navigation device field. It's just the right size, anyway.

For the new tablet, we've got a new OS tablet edition: the still Linux-based IT OS2008. Let's hope that installing 2k7 applications doesn't require random libraries this time around. Nokia did mention that the N800 is upgradeable to the new operating system, but neglected to mention anything about the 770 tablet.

Other than that, the features are still very Nokia tablety-ish. Integrated VGA camera (no longer popping out the side of the device), VoIP, large screen (4.13 inches), and more included applications than you can shake a stick at.

The Nokia N810 internet tablet will start shipping in mid-November, for an expected retail price of - get this - $479 US dollars.
